Original Billing for this show was the Jeff Beck Group, Moby Grape & Mint Tattoo of which would be either the July 23rd, 24th or 25th 1968 show. There had been early and late shows for these dates and I have no idea as to what day or show this could be, even with the aid the many set list postings online I have not seen the exact set lists for this performance.
This recording was obtained by a friend in the late 80's that attended Columbia University and was in the same fraternity as Dave Graham (Bill's son). The story goes that this was recorded from the master reel when cataloguing had been done at BGP's warehouse. It was dubbed down from the master reel to a Sony D-6 and then given to me to transfer to DAT in 1988.
I only know that the recording I received was on cassette and was accompanied by the lineage story. I have no reason to cast doubt, as I mentioned above, this set list varies subtly from the other lists I have seen online.
Whatever the true date of this show is, the sound is amazing and the performance is outstanding.
Enjoy!
