In the summer of 1990 I uncovered four Zeppelin soundboards from '73 (Mobile, Ft. Worth, Buffalo, Chicago[I also uncovered some alternates for other tapes already floating around: III Rehearsals, IV Rehearsals and NY 7-27-73]). Chicago is presented here. PLEASE NOTE: The first 60 minutes of Chicago is from a different source. Tracks 1-8 and the beginning note of The Rain Song appeared in trading circles prior to my tape, which is the remainder of the show. I have presented the show in its entirety for the sake of convenience. However the generation copy for the first 60 minutes is unknown. It is low, to be sure, because I obtained it when the soundboard tapes were still hush hush. Though it had appeared on CD, Chicago, like Stoke '73, were extremely inferior discs compared to the tapes. It appears bootleggers were either given or were putting out CDs from tapes that had been purposefully muddled. To restate - I am only the source for The Rain Song through Communication Breakdown. I've seen lots of bootlegs floating around claiming to be from the master tapes. It's simply untrue. I am the source for these tapes. The buck stops here. While their actual lineage was not passed on to me, I assume them to be 3rd gen. The person I recieved them from was not a Zep fan and had been sitting on them for many years. The only reason he decided to do something with them was because his tapes were quickly deteriorating (the tapes themselves were actually developing holes). So I count lineage as follows: Master>Unknown 1st Gen>2nd Gen(Source for my tapes)>3rd Gen(me). I'd rather err on the side of caution than grossly misrepresent my tapes lineage. I guarantee a comparison of these tapes against any other source for them. You will find these to be far superior.

Rock & Roll, Sean.
