NOTES:

I'm not sure what possessed me to purchase a ticket for this. Tribute bands aren't really my thing, but some of them are highly rated and Letz Zep is one of those.

Too young to see Led Zeppelin when they were around and far too absorbed in punk's ethos of 'out with the old' to have considered the proposition anyway, the closest I can get to the experience now is going to see an outfit like Letz Zep.

With no live experience of the original band and not being casual enough about them to have avoided elevating them to the status of demi-gods, it's safe for me to go and see a band like Letz Zep. I can enjoy them on their own merit without finding myself making constant comparisons between them and the band they seek to emulate. For all intents and purposes, I may as well be watching the original band. The distinction isn't important to me.

And speaking of emulation, you'd better be damn sure you can come up with the goods if you're going to try to imitate one of the most iconic rock bands of all time. It takes a bold guitarist, for example, to claim that he can fill Jimmy Page's shoes. Only someone who's genuinely shit-hot or just plain bloody stupid would do that.

Andy Gray turns out to be as astounding talent on lead guitar. In fact, all of these musicians are top notch, though vocalist Billy Kulke is the only one who actually bears any resemblance to the person he seeks to emulate.

It's immensely enjoyable for what it is, the only bummer being a few inconsiderate people who decide to light up during the gig.

The recording is excellent. As always, samples are included to help you determine whether it is worth your while.
